@honestmyo: Here's the reason you can’t tell if you’re tongue tied just by sticking your tongue out… Some people can stick their tongue out really far and still have a restriction. Why? Because tongue function is about much more than how far the tip can come forward. An obvious anterior tongue tie (font of the tongue) may be easy to see. But other restrictions can affect how well the middle and back of the tongue: - Elevate - Suction to the palate - Hold that position - Move without help from the jaw, neck, or floor of the mouth This is why it's bad to just ask, “How far can your tongue go OUT?” Because it dosent really tell you anything. You also want to know, “How well can your whole tongue go UP?” A good measurement you can use is lingual-palatal suction. This will tell you what you need to know about how well the middle of the tongue moves and functions. The function is what matters. Things like mouth breathing, snoring, swallowing or speech concerns, low tongue posture, or sleep-disordered breathing can sometimes show up when the middle of the tongue is restricted. But those symptoms can have many different causes, and one measurement alone does not diagnose a tongue tie. That is why you need tolook at the whole picture.
