To be fair, you have to understand why that album exists to understand why it sounds the way it does. It was a time when he was on the verge of constant mental breakdowns and suicidal activities. He released the album as "a desperate call for help" and "something you'll only like if you've been in been in this position". People who aren't in that state of mind or ever have been will not get it and that's honestly okay. Gotta respect him for being brave enough to post an album like that.
