GOOD MORNING Y’ALL & ROLL TIDE! ❤️🐘🏈 It’s officially my favorite time of year… COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON! And for the first time ever, we’re watching it from our new motorhome. The babies are asleep inside, I’m sitting outside doing my Good Morning, and later we’re cooking, tailgating and watching football right here at our little campsite. I could not be happier. 😂🏈 But every football season somebody asks me the same question: How in the world did a Louisiana girl become such a diehard Alabama fan? Well, it started with Jay. ❤️ Jay was married to Kenny’s sister. She met him out dancing one night while he was an airman stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base. But Jay was from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, so naturally he was a diehard Alabama fan. My middle son, Chase, absolutely adored Jay. They were incredibly close. We lost Jay to a rare kidney cancer. He died on his 42 birthday. After we lost him, Alabama football became even more special to Chase. It was one of those things that connected him back to somebody he loved so much. So here was my Louisiana boy walking around in Alabama shirts, surrounded by diehard LSU fans, taking ALLLLL the grief that comes with that all by himself. 😂 Well yall, this mama wasn’t having that! I said, “If my boy is gonna be an Alabama fan in Louisiana, then I’m gonna be one right there with him.” And y’all, I took that assignment entirely too seriously. 😂😂 Because now I am FAR more of an Alabama fan than Chase, Kenny or anybody else in this family. Chase won’t even watch a game with me because he says I’m a crazy person. 😂 I call penalties before the refs call them, argue with Kenny about plays and then wait patiently for the referee to confirm that, once again, I WAS RIGHT. 😂🏈 And then there’s THE SWEATSHIRT! It belonged to Jay. After he died, my sister-in-law gave it to Kenny, and somehow since 2008 it has become MY lucky Alabama sweatshirt. That thing has been inside Bryant-Denny, it has assisted in some miraculous Alabama football moments….. people have actually tried to buy it from of me. 😂😂😂 Although lately she has been slacking on the job.😭 Ma’am… what exactly happened during Vandy?? 👀😂 (it’s ok sis, Nicks gone and Kalen may not be helping you as much as Nick did. 🤦🏻‍♀️) But that’s why this Louisiana girl says ROLL TIDE. It started with Jay. Jay passed it to Chase. And Chase passed it to me. ❤️ And what started as me standing beside my boy became something I genuinely fell in love with all on my own. So today we’re starting another little chapter. Our first college football Saturday in the motorhome, cooking outside, tailgating at our campsite and watching the Tide Roll! And somewhere in all of it, there’s still a little piece of Jay. ❤️🐘 ROLL TIDE, Y’ALL! P.S.
