Make your own - buy dewaxed shellac flakes and mix with alcohol for a one to one and a half pound cut. You’ll find instructions for how to deal it easily online. The flakes might be a little expensive at first, but it’ll last for a very long time and you’ll only make as much as you need.

Depends on your intention. If you’re looking for something to use for protection against water and basic scratches, some sort of penetrating oil based finish works great. Danish oil is a great option for something relatively cheap. I’m a big sucker for hard wax oils, especially Odie’s oil. Not cheap, but it goes far and is super easy to apply

Honestly: depending on the purpose you can go to the paint store and get a gallon of lacquer sanding sealer pretty cheap
