I feel like everyone I know with hEDS was some sort of dancer, swimmer, gymnast, or some high-level athlete in their younger years who then became debilitated by this condition as they aged - but so many of them ended up becoming physical therapists, personal trainers, pilates instructors, etc!! Before I even start working, I’m already gathering information. I’ll gently rock through the spine and low back, feeling how everything moves and where it resists. At the same time, I’m syncing my breath with the client to help their system calm down and let go. Then I’ll contact the sacrum—either applying a gentle compression or distracting it inferiorly—and layer that with subtle rocking. It’s a simple way to ease tension in the low back and sacrum while continuing to assess. All of this is happening while I’m “scanning” the body…so by the time I actually start the work, I already know where I need to go. No wasted time—just connection, relaxation, and assessment all at once. #massage #massagetherapy #bodywork #lowbackpain #FYP
