trump is also forgetting that packers not only process the beef, but provide logistics for it to distributors like grocery stores and restraunt suppliers. even if every farmer could process on their own, the new logistical strain (as well as the lack of drivers) would cause prices to most likely raise even more

I also question where the ranchers are getting the money to buy processing equipment. For small to medium ranches it’s a quarter to half million investment just for the equipment. Then there is labor cost. How exactly are ranchers, who are already broke, now going to also become processors? Beef prices would have to go up to cover processing investment.

As a rancher, I can tell you there is no way in hell I'd process my own beef. He is going to make things even less safe then he already has.

The crazy part was how this fourth plan came about. 26th August, trump has an interview on a radio show with Glenn Beck, himself an Idaho farmer. Beck suggested processing their own meats. Trump said good idea and the next day, It's announced. OMG!!!!!! 😏😏😏😏 I have watched one video of a farmer beside himself with joy and patting trump and Beck on the back for being so brilliant. 🥺🥺🥺

No rancher is going to invest in the necessary equipment when they know this administration is going to pull the rug out from them four months done the road. The other option is taking it to an existing local processor. And that’s swell until deer season comes around.
