@gerardrennick70: Leave Health Insurance Alone Earlier this year the Labor party introduced a nasty piece of legislation that will wind back health rebates for people aged over 65. This is will make it much harder for Seniors to afford Health Insurance and push the cost onto State run public hospitals, thereby increasing pressure on both public hospitals to meet the extra demand while cutting valuable funding for Private Hospitals. Not surprisingly even the Labor premiers have pushed back on this cruel policy. It also highlights how dysfunctional our Federation is. We desperately need to reform the ambiguous responsibilities between State and Federal governments and eliminate the vertical fiscal imbalance. It also highlights the need to a National Government Office to underwrite cheap health insurance to take pressure off public hospitals. It’s typical of the major parties to impose cuts to services rather than fix systemic imbalances that our dysfunctional Federation has become.
