To celebrate our win in San Diego against Cathedral Catholic, I wanted to share these pictures and what they really mean to me. Torta Power. That’s what they call me, but before it became a name, it was my story. My football journey started back home in Ensenada, Mexico. As I started taking football more seriously, my family and I would travel almost 3 hours to San Diego just so I could practice, compete and continue chasing my dream. Those trips to Daygo are where Torta Power was born. It’s also where I started making videos and sharing my football journey with everyone. That’s why these pictures mean so much to me. They were taken to represent my Mexican culture and the things I grew up around. The tacos, the taquerias, the tortas, the streets and everything that reminds me of home. To some people it might just be food, but to me it represents my roots, my family, my culture and where I come from. I’ve always wanted to find a way to bring that culture into the game I love. As an offensive lineman, when you put a defender on the ground, everybody calls it a pancake. But for us, a pancake is a TORTA. That became part of Torta Power. It was our way of bringing a little piece of Mexico into football. What started as something we said and posted in our videos has grown into something I never expected. Now I see players and people in different places calling their pancakes TORTAS too. That means a lot to me because Torta Power has become bigger than just a nickname. It represents Ensenada. It represents Mexico. It represents my family and all the sacrifices they have made for me. It represents the big boys in the trenches. Most importantly, it reminds me that I can chase my dreams without forgetting where I came from. That’s why coming back to San Diego and getting this win against Cathedral Catholic meant so much to me. I came back to the same Daygo where my family used to drive almost 3 hours just so I could get an opportunity to practice football. The same place where the videos started. The same place where Torta Power started becoming part of who I am. But this time I came back wearing 78, representing my school, my family, my culture, Ensenada and Mexico. We came back to Daygo and got the win. For me, that’s full circle. From Ensenada to Daygo and still chasing the dream. Never forget where you came from.
