FYI, existence of sidewalks do not make a place ‘walkable’ Japan is walkable, because places are close together, road traffic low and slow. American has spread out large stores, designed for cars, large parking lots, alongside fast busy roads.

Urban hell is essentially when a city overflowing with rubbish on the street, congested traffic and rows of street vendors. Even if a city is packed with concrete, removing these elements will make city beautiful to some extent.
