Oh that’s so interesting. It’s completely different in Canada. You must get hired by a department and then they train you.

I’m confused in New York the civil service exam is not done by each department but there’s one for the entire state you have to do before you can apply? In Texas you have to apply and do the exam for every single agency in their presence.

NJ - civil service exam, or chiefs test. You can go alternate route too. Biggest thing, keep your background clean. Sergeant 22+ years on
