@philip_b_howie: Credit: @functionalpatterns (IG) If you want to jump well, squat well, and produce force efficiently, you need to be able to move laterally and rotate well. Watch Letizia’s jumping mechanics before training with @bruno_cassaro You can clearly see her body shifting from left to right, with a significant collapse into the left hip. She lacked the lateral stability needed to control her body as she produced and absorbed force. This is something most people rarely train in the gym. Most conventional training keeps you almost entirely in the sagittal plane: squatting, deadlifting, pressing, and moving straight forward and backward. But humans don’t function in one plane. We rotate. We shift laterally. We have to control forces from side to side. If you can’t stabilize laterally and rotate efficiently, don’t expect your jumping, squatting, running, or athletic movement to be optimized. When Letizia, a professional dancer, started training at @fp_sicily in November 2025, she was dealing with constant 9/10 left hip pain and lower back pain reaching 4/10 after prolonged effort. It had gotten severe enough that she couldn’t dance. Instead of simply chasing the painful areas, the focus was on changing the mechanics contributing to the problem. Her before-and-after photos show improvements in pelvic and spinal alignment, rib cage and neck positioning, knee hyperextension, and overall trunk support. More importantly, those structural changes transferred into movement. Her jumping mechanics became significantly more stable, with far less lateral shifting and no longer collapsing into the left hip. The result: Hip pain: 9/10 →0/10 Lower back pain: 4/10 → 0/10 She’s now back to her career as a professional dancer with confidence and without pain. You don’t build a body that moves well by only training it to move in one plane. Train in 3D. Train FP. #functionalpatterns #fpisthestandard #biomechanics #functionaltraining #jumping
