Statistics and averages can be twisted to suit a narrative. For example saying the average person in the UK will struggle to buy the average house. Whilst this is true - mainly because the house s in the south of UK or ridiculous prices , the average person in , say , Hartlepool gets paid somewhere around £30,000 a year. The average house price according to the ONS is £135,000 which is pretty easily do able especially if its a couple buying a house so there are 2 wages.

Boomer insist “oh we lived” and many of them didn’t. I work in health and safety. My biggest problems are young men who think themselves immortal and 60 years olds who think themselves immortal (who have wrecked their retirement by long term injury) anecdotal of course but it’s infuriating to deal with

Always two ways to look at things, there’s the stats and figures and then there’s the real world experience. I bought my first house in 1994 for what would now be described as peanuts. It was a massive struggle to pay the mortgage and bills. We had hardly any cash left to do anything. So it’s easy to sneer at folk when you haven’t lived it.

My best experience of absurdly rejecting obvious fact was showing a young male employee CCTV of him stealing a load of stock, he was in the same hoodie with the same large logo in the same colour as in the footage with the same tattoo on his neck. Sat there cool as and kept saying with supreme confidence that’s not me. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
