I think people r struggling to understand you said you could never be comfortable middle class on 80k a year you’re not acting like that is no money but in LA once you add up basic living expenses (rent, utilities, fuel, groceries, healthcare, insurance) there is not much leftover to put in your savings. Its the type of money where maybe you can meet all your expenses but if something unexpected happens like your car breaks down you can drain your entire savings and go into debt. Comfortable implies you don’t have to twist ur budget, that youll always have enough money to go on a vacation once a year.

Everyone is freaking out about your salary being 80k but like that’s what teachers on the lowest income states should be making. Like teachers shape our future, they spend the most time with the future generations, we NEED them. And we need to PAY them.

I work in Massachusetts — widely considered one of the richest states and strongest in education and “pays their teachers best” — with the cost of living and my salary I could NOT afford to live without my s/o income and still I work a second job to make ends meet. Not to mention teacher spring practicums are UNPAID and you’re expected to work M-F 8 hrs for a full semester!
