That faire used to be so amazing. Great food, amazing shows. The past few years it’s really gone down hill. So crowded you can’t move, expensive crap food, no mud show, and no more wine tasting! We waited 30 minutes to refill a water bottle last year. Every year we go back thinking it will get better again and are disappointed.

a lot of ghe bigger renfaires are being bought out by private equity because once they stop being profitable, the company has a large swath of land they own and well... say hello to data centers and cheaply built but extravagant priced homes...

"private equity" like it's the boogey man. uh oh, better watch out for that "corporate greed". this is the modern equivalent of "faeries swapped my baby". life is not an 80s movie.

Their Yule festival is better than the Renaissance Festival anyway. It’s colder and the crowd is smaller. Win win imho! I hope they have it again this year.

I think their goal is to run the faire into the ground and sell the land to developers

I'm tired of people selling to private equity. I'm sure it's hard to pass up a boatload of money, but we have to stop selling out.

I'm calling it right now - these PE firms are buying up the land to cash out to developers who will want the sites for data centers/development if the sites are compatible with those use cases. and my guess is they just might be

this is months old news. it hasn't been bad for some of the faires they have bought, but private equity is private equity. so wait and see has been the level headed approach. on the face of it the equity group sounds like a bunch of Ren faire nerds with money, but it hasn't been around long enough to truly judge. I can say that things that were going down hill in PA continued that way (quality of some food), but there have been improvements in other places.

Oh thank god. I was just thinking the tickets weren’t price gauged enough and I’ve heard the vendors actually manage to make money sometimes. Like UGH fix it please.

To be fair it was bought by Lancelot Entertainment, which owns GA Faire, Scarborough Fair, and King Richards fair, not a nameless bank

Ren faires in general, at least in my experience, seem to have dumped in quality since the Big Cough. My local faire charges for parking now (not a deal breaker), the best performers are gone, and everything is way more expensive.

Wait till next year, the reins aren’t passed over to this company till 2027 season. So any changes happening now are not done by the new owners.

Yeah— I’m not sure if it’s directly correlated, but I noticed a few changes this year that I miss from previous years. Like there was only one 18+ event/act, Arthur Greenleaf Holmes, that had raunchy jokes. There used to be so many more— I get making the Faire kid friendly, but it feels too watered down. I thought those acts were so funny and fit the vibe. Another example I miss was when Trixie’s Twisted Knickers was unhinged.
