I saw a live production of Cabaret and at the end when the emcee said “even the orchestra is beautiful,” the lights went up and the orchestra was gone. It was chilling and perfect

Spains version right now has a very similar ending, emcee, who was played by a trans woman starts taking off all her clothes until she’s completely naked with mr Schultz and some ensamble members while others wear a gas mask, in the end the room fills with smoke and backward lights simulating what you would expect. It’s really a masterpiece

saw this in london this year. the one change that really disturbed me was that they had the emcee slowly transition into the aryan race. it was chilling. every scene… black hair to blond. brown eyes to blue. freeform posture to tense shoulders. fluid movements to stiff marching. both versions work… either you remain true to yourself and become a prisoner for who you are, or you morph into what is accepted and lose your morality to survive. cabaret really is a work of art

my college did a production of Cabaret a year or two before I attended. instead of the usual bows the cast walked out, placed their shoes onstage and walked off before blackout. said theyd never heard a more silent theater in their life because everyone was so shocked

His facial expressions are so peak. A caricature of the Emcees mask, dissappearing between glitches of fear, stubborn defiance, plain grief, deep realisation, final sass, every oh so human emotion - its a masterpiece of performance. The bruised face, colors not longer set by makeup, the badly cut hair, not longer styled neatly - these details are presented so subtle but powerful. It's getting me every time.

genuinely when I watched cabaret for the first time that ending scared me for weeks. It gives me chills it’s so so scary knowing we ARE heading in that direction. And there’s literally another video where the audience laughs before he pulls off his jacket, and just the room being DEAD silent so fast after he pulled it off, it’s so so chilling.
