might help to know Kiki is the rare adapted Ghibli, from a novel by Eiko Kadono and it's an episodic book just little vignettes strung together. Miyazaki added her self doubt crisis and the airship rescue to wind things up. I like to think what he does here is more like invisible plotting, where you don't readily see the direction of the film or if the film even has a direction. might not be to everyone's taste but I think this is really hard to pull off.
