🇺🇸 Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA On October 25, 2021, a disturbing arrest unfolded inside a Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Tulsa when 70-year-old LaDonna June Paris was taken into custody during what authorities later confirmed was a severe mental health crisis. Paris had entered the store while experiencing a manic episode related to bipolar disorder. At some point during the episode, she locked herself inside a store restroom and refused to come out. After several hours, employees contacted the Tulsa Police Department for assistance. When officers arrived, they attempted to convince Paris to unlock the door. They even placed a store manager on speakerphone, hoping a familiar voice would persuade her to step out peacefully. But Paris remained inside, frightened and confused. Body-camera footage later revealed a controversial moment. Outside the locked restroom door, Officer Ronni Corracia was seen laughing while activating a Taser, threatening to use it on the elderly woman. From inside the restroom, Paris could be heard pleading: “Don’t do it.” Officers briefly discussed using pepper spray, but instead decided to force entry. When police finally broke into the restroom, officers pulled Paris to the ground and restrained her. During the arrest she suffered a facial injury, prompting emergency medical personnel to respond and treat her at the scene. Medical responders noted that she appeared to be actively experiencing a manic episode. Despite the circumstances, Paris was arrested and jailed for about one month, facing several charges connected to the incident. Later, a judge dismissed all charges. Following the incident, a lawsuit was filed, raising questions about how police handled a mental health emergency involving an elderly woman.
