@thecareerdecoded: Ask questions that make them prove it. Just like the hiring manager is looking for evidence from you. You’re looking for evidence too. Questions I would ask: 1. “Why is the position open?” Growth? Added headcount? Promotion? Career change? All can be healthy reasons. Repeated turnover or a vague answer? Dig deeper. 2. “Looking at your department, how many people have been on the team longer than two years?” Don’t ask if they have high turnover. Ask for something measurable. 3. “What is the average tenure of the company’s executive leadership team?” Look for stability at the top. 4. “What is the average tenure of the management team within this department?” Now look at stability within the department. 5. “What does success look like in this role on your team?” Are expectations clear and realistic? 6. “What hasn’t worked in the past in this role?” Listen for ownership. Is every former employee the problem? 7. “How would you describe your management style?” Follow up: “Can you give me an example of what that looks like day-to-day?” Make them substantiate it. 8. “How do you typically give feedback when someone on your team isn’t meeting expectations?” How do they handle accountability, communication, and performance? 9. “When someone on your team makes a mistake, how do you typically handle it?” Pay attention to how they answer. 10. “Tell me about the last person you promoted on your team. What did they do to earn that promotion?” Don’t ask if advancement happens. Look for evidence that it does. 11. “What would your current team say is the most challenging part about working for you?” A self-aware leader should be able to answer this. 12. “What tends to create the most pressure or stress for your team?” Listen for chronic understaffing, unrealistic expectations, constant fire drills, or consistently long hours. You’re looking for patterns. One answer may not tell you much. Several answers pointing in the same direction will. #job #interview #careeradvice #interviewtips #hiring

Every single time I hear "we're a family" means there is favoritism and they always tend to protect them. We are just working to make THEIR lives easier and take the blame for any mistakes.

OK, as someone who’s been laid off from a very high paying corporate job for four months now, I appreciate everything you say and I get it. However, my concern is that when you start saying these things in an interview, they’re gonna run for the hills cause they know you’re way smarter. That won’t get you hired will it. I just had a wonderful interview with people that hooked me up with people I knew and then I got complete silence. I believe I know why because I asked too many questions. I would love to hear your feedback on this comment. I’m still trying to get a job!

I have asked some of these questions during an interview. After being hired, found out the answers were all lies. This has happened several times in my career.😳

How many team have been there longer than 2 years seals the deal. I talked to my new colleagues and they said 6-40 years thats solid in my books.

I ask the interviewer "could you share with me an accomplishment that you are proud of, within the company". cookie cutter answers means rehearsed phrases. but you'll often get more of a personal perspective from the interviewer. it gives them a chance to show pride, and in what areas.

I asked respectful questions during an interview, which they could not answer and we’re becoming noticeably flustered. They never called me again, but I already knew what I needed to know. 😊

I would challenge the question, “How many people on your team have been with the company for more than two years?” I don’t think length of tenure necessarily tells us whether a team has a healthy or effective work environment. Someone who has been with the company for several years may have simply adapted to the leadership style they have been working under, including environments where there may be micromanagement, poor communication, or other unhealthy leadership practices. Over time, those behaviours can become normalized, and people may not even recognize that what they have experienced is not necessarily a healthy standard of leadership. I think we need to ask better questions that focus on the employee experience rather than simply measuring how long people have stayed. For example: Do employees feel trusted and supported by their leader? Do they feel comfortable speaking up or raising concerns? Do they have autonomy in their roles? Do they feel respected and valued? Those questions may give us a much clearer picture of the health of a team and the quality of its leadership than tenure alone.

My last job that wasn’t a gig app work due to health needs to be flexible, I got a job in an apartment complex and the manager said we are family here and the person I replaced was fired. I ended up quitting within 8 months cause it was an awful place to work 😂

I like to ask what’s your favorite part about working here? They can answer about operations, co workers/culture, and ultimately you should interview them the same way they question you it’s okay

I asked “what distinguishes someone who performs well on your team from someone who really stands out?” They answered by regurgitating my answer back to me from a previous question. Came out feeling more confused bout the role. Apparently hiring managers are taught to play psychological mind games on candidates wtf.

I used to ask to speak (privately) with a couple employees who would speak positively about the department, AND a couple who would be negative about the department.

I love asking “why is this position open?” Or “What were some areas of improvement the previous person in this role could’ve made to excel within the role”. Like if u ask me why I want to leave my job — I’ll ask u the same. Kinda rude tbh
