The job interview process is a neurodivergent's worst nightmare. Here's what they say vs what they actually mean: "Tell me about yourself" = "Tell me about your previous work history, but I'll word it vaguely and you're supposed to figure out what I mean". "What are your salary expectations?" = "I want to see if you are a good negotiator or if I can lowball you". "What is your greatest weakness" = "Give me a cliche example of a perfectly rehearsed 'weakness' that is secretly a strength". "Where do you see yourself in five years?" = "I want to see how loyal you are to us even though we treat our employees like numbers on a spreadsheet"

Going to work is torture to me. I am always so tired and I use my weekend to recover but my nervous system is on overdrive all weekend thinking about Monday and going back and I end up feeling exhausted again.

These jobs aren't meant for ND people. You have to force yourself to conform to the role instead of fitting in naturally like a NT person would. This is very mentally exhausting and eventually leads to burnout.

Autistic here - self sufficiency for me has looked like figuring out I can only work a 9-5 for 18 months and then my body shuts down and I need to hibernate/isolate. PLANNING ON BURNOUT has saved my life and kept me from homelessness. Good luck to fellow Spiceys. 💚

As a healthcare girly, might I recommend it to other people on the spectrum. Not only does healthcare already have a disproportionate number of neurodivergents - so you blend right in and feel understood… but the chaos of it helps somehow. I work in radiology in a dark room, no one micromanages me. It’s great. 🤷♀️
