@wessie7582: I started testosterone and started losing my hair. Turns out the problem wasn’t the testosterone-it was what my body was doing with it. Testosterone gets broken down two different ways. One pathway (5-alpha) converts it into DHT, which is 3–5x stronger and is the hormone that shrinks scalp follicles. The other pathway (5-beta) is basically neutral-nothing happens to your hair. Your genetics decide which one you favor, and a standard blood test won’t tell you. A DUTCH test will. The marker to ask about: 5α-androstanediol. If it’s running high, you’re a strong converter, and that’s a conversation to have with your provider before you start-not after your ponytail gets thin. Two women, same dose, completely different outcome. That’s why “you’re low, let’s replace it” isn’t enough information. Not medical advice-just my own test results and what I wish someone had told me. 🤍 Save this for your next appointment. #perimenopause #dutchtest #hormonehealth #womenshealth #femalehairloss

Ferritin below 100 and estrogen below 150-200. hair falls out on T. Fix both and you won’t lose hair. My T is 350-400 and I have to cut my hair every 4 wks.

So basically I can be horny and bald…..or have no sex drive at all but have gorgeous hair. 😳 Thats SUCKS! I mean, it doesn’t really matter what the Dutch test tells me because I feel amazing with testosterone. However I am losing my hair.

Dr. Jamie Gilliam, PhD :
What is your dose of t and your total and free bl**d serum values? While high conversion to dht can cause virilization, so can too high of a dose. Dutch testing isn’t supported by any medical society. It lacks reliability data. Taking a dht blocker while on trt is simple to incorporate and we have serum testing as well. If brain fog is present, not likely from suboptimal or low t. I’d run full thyroid panel, iron with ferritin and adrenal labs plus autoimmune screen. Also, oral progesterone can cause a hungover effect in some women so if it started after progesterone, you can talk to your provider about using Prometrium as a suppository. You can use cream if you don’t have a uterus on estrogen. If you have a uterus, you need oral or suppository.

Why are we not educating doctors on this? Why do we have become the doctors that educate the “doctors” on the tests we need to take. The system is BROKEN

Brain fog gets better once you’re well into post menopause. It did for me anyway. Everything levels out.

Do you get your hormone levels checked in USA? NHS doctor told me there was no point because hormone levels vary depending on the day. Am I being fobbed off?

You can add DHT to your blood test. Also injections are less likely to convert.

This happened to me also. I stopped it, but the hair loss continues. It’s so thin. Hoping it will stop. It’s absolutely devastating.
