It’s annoying having to have the whole race and discrimination narrative forced on us again. Like it’s okay to represent especially for the setting and the time period the flashback takes place. But they forced that bs way too much. To the point of legit having to put Hal Jordan’s character down tryna say he didn’t deserve it. He’s white so he doesn’t have anything to fear. It’s stupid. One person fear isn’t bigger than another’s. We all fear different things and we all fear the same. Black people had to fear the discrimination okay. White people had fears of their own for different reasons but fear is all the same. It was idiotic. They could’ve done a lot better on that. Even if it supposed to js be the mom’s perspective it was incredibly overdone and forced.

People complaining about the racial elements are precisely the reason why they include it. You lack the understanding that if you are a minority that has been discriminated against you are gonna be inherently disadvantaged. When they call out the lanterns for “not thinking about them” they are talking about how the test is inherently biased because of existing conditions on earth caused by racism. At the same time, you are being given a perspective of these people, not the stance that you personally should have, reminder that the parents also abused John his entire life in pursuit of a righteous mission because they felt wronged. You are being given someone’s perspective. Mind you this episode is not my favourite simply because I find most flashback episodes boring and needless, but your critiques are coming from a perspective of ignorance and bias.

As a conservative… I liked the inclusion of the race aspects. This is literally the perspective the average black family would have had throughout the 80s and 90s. They’re not pushing anything on us, just showcasing a family dynamic.

The people hating on this episode are genuinely being weird and reaching. The logic of why the mother would think like this in that time period obviously makes sense and was explained pretty clearly in the episode

Episode 3 is terrible. The first two were awesome, easily 8 or 9 out of 10. Episode 3 is a 1. Very badly written. You could skip it all and not miss anything important.
