i didn't even watch the show cause it's just... exhausting. I have social anxiety. it's not cute AT ALL. people look at me weird, I say things I don't mean to try and fit in, I talk too much then too little than don't know what to say, it's not cute whatsoever. people called me "too quiet" "too polite" "too temid" to a point it's an ACTUAL FAULT. it's really really really not cute at all

i hate when the canonically "popular" character has the social skills of a baby. like, no, that's not how that works?! you won't be popular if u literally can't carry conversation for more than 2 words. every single popular person i've met had really good social skills. (i call them "social beasts")

it always rubbed me the wrong way when ppl hated on watamote bc the main girl was a “loser”, when it’s really just an infinitely more accurate depiction of social anxiety than most anime (bocchi the rock, Komi, etc)

As a teenager who suffers from social anxiety I wish there was more representation for social anxiety in media i want media to represent the isolating part of it and the fact sometimes you might say something awkward that breaks a social cue and throw off a whole conversation instead of making a shy popular attractive character like komi

reposting this: it's repeatedly said that the reason Komi is so "lucky" with her anxiety and shyness is because she looks like a classic elegant beauty and so theres an EXPECTATION for her be silent and aloof. Like what's holding the series back imo is that this is a comedy slice of life when this couldve been a better seinen Manga about a young girl in highschool with severe social anxiety being treated as an elegant "woman" who fits in with the traditionalist Japanese society's idea of a proper mild woman. It would make her friendship with they Gyaru girl even more impactful

kcc had sm potential but it got reduced into slice of life romance slop where nobody is any deeper then their base character dynamics and the mc will always be too shy to do anything about their feelings so the creator and studio can milk it for as much money as possible

I feel like you can definitely be popular with poor social skills probably due to your looks. Komi could've easily been perceived as the "pretty quiet girl".. that being said kcc did it all WRONG. The notion that she doesn't even have 5 friends as a popular kid is astonishing and she just immediately trusts the boy at the bottom of the class even though she has terrible social anxiety???

I used to have a really bad social anxiety, like- being afraid to leave the house to the point of failing school -kind of one. Based on my personal experience, Id say that the anime character who's social anxiety felt the most accurate was Shoya's from ,,A Silent Voice"
