This happened to me in the recent past. I am senior manager for a global tech company. Earning a lot of money. Because of that, I have so many friends around me. We go out, we eat at my house (my treat), they borrow money from me (some of which were not paid until present). I even helped some of them level up their careers. Until I was laid off in 2023, just a few months after I got my house and spent much of my savings from renovations. Then, I hit rock bottom, job market was tough. And all of my so called friends turned their back on me, mocked me, and the ones I helped level up? Ended up betraying me. I cut them off, silently built myself up again. And now that I am back on track, even more stable, I no longer entertain anyone. I am more at peace with my partner and my dogs.
