I was thinking about this yesterday. Out of all the people I know why am I the one that could no longer believe? I’ve wondered if something is wrong with me or I’m a bad person . It makes me wonder if a lot of people that claim they still believe do it out of habit? Or fear? I wish I still had belief sometimes. Sometimes I feel very cheated.

I was raised in the Catholic house. Went to catholic school K-12 and then went on to a Christian college. I am an atheist. I was told what to believe all my life. I was told “have faith”, I was told to doubt is a sin! I happen to think….once you actually study religions across the nations, AND you have internal growth we can SEE and understand that Christianity is a beautiful story. They lay out some nice morals and values to live by. BUT, there was no Adam and Eve, no one got swallowed by a whale, the seas didn’t part and the burning bush never spoke to anyone. I’d rather live my life as a good human and keep religion out of my life.

People are very psychologically invested in the idea "That could never happen to me". It's why we blame heart attacks on lifestyle, addiction on degeneracy, rape on what she was wearing....and it's why the faithful must, for their own peace of mind, declare that someone who falls away from their belief must have made a bad choice, it's their fault.

Well, Calvinists believe that God destines some people to hell. But all of a sudden when someone shares that they don't believe anyone (thus will go to hell) that apparently all goes out the window.

I spent 30+ years in the church and even as a leader, but eventually it just no longer added up. The deeper I looked, the more that I searched, the less I saw… I wanted to, but no longer could 🤷🏼♂️

I loved church - the music, the Bible studies, retreats with friends. I miss the friendships and the feeling of belonging! Why would I give those things I loved so very much up if I could just decide to belive!
