A court has heard that inmate and drill rapper Rico Gedel allegedly murdered disgraced Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins at HMP Wakefield in a bid for notoriety, reportedly telling a prison officer: “If I’ve killed him, you could be talking to someone famous.” Leeds Crown Court heard Gedel entered Watkins’ cell shortly after it was unlocked on 11 October last year and stabbed him three times in the head and neck with a homemade knife during a 20-second attack. Prosecutors allege fellow inmate Samuel Dodsworth helped dispose of the weapon and knew the attack was planned. Gedel, who allegedly later said “If I’m going to do life for murder, I’m going to make sure it’s worth it,” claimed he resented sharing a wing with sex offenders, while both defendants deny murder and possession of the weapon. #TSB #TSBNEWS
