Well actually it's much more complicated than that Front facing eyes give you depth perception with is important for animals like Big cats which lunge at their prey, but also for animals like Apes which needs to know how far a brach is away But if depth perception isn't important an animal will normally have side facing eyes too get a better field of view As for Dragons they don't really need depth perception since they're gonna hit everything in that direction anyways the moment they use their breath weapon, but they need a large field of view because they fly, nearly every species that Flies or swims has side facing eyes because enemies could come from all sides in a 3D space, but that enemy doesn't need to be a predator it could also be a rival dragon and we know that dragons in DND do fight eachother

It’s a fun fact but doesn’t hold true to all animals and starts to break apart with non-mammals pretty quickly. Many snakes and lizards have more lateral set eyes even though they’re predators and conversely tree-dwelling monkeys have forward facing eyes even though they primarily are herbivores and don’t predate.

I believe it could also be the same with dragons and their eyes as with those of a bird. They can see basically 360 degrees around themselves because of their eyes being on the side. If I’m not wrong
