@darklens_30: On February 15, 1982, the Ocean Ranger—then one of the world’s largest semi-submersible oil rigs—sank during a violent North Atlantic storm off the coast of Newfoundland. All 84 people aboard died. A massive wave smashed through a porthole in the ballast control room, allowing seawater to enter and contributing to the rig developing a dangerous list. As conditions deteriorated, the crew abandoned the rig into the freezing Atlantic. Rescue efforts were launched, but the extreme weather made survival and recovery incredibly difficult. Only 22 bodies were eventually recovered. The Ocean Ranger disaster remains one of the darkest tragedies in offshore oil industry history—a devastating reminder that even enormous structures can be vulnerable to the power of the sea. 🌊 🎥 Follow @darklens_30 for more terrifying history, true crime, and shocking real events. #viral #reels #explore #MaritimeHistory #DarkHistory
