i grew up with all women (and mom worked retail too) so until my teens i thought we all did that with our voices to sound nicer with other people

It's ofc more prominent in women, what with expectations and all, but it absolutely exist in men too. I have a higher and softer pitch talking with my beloved, a deeper more melodious pitch with clients, a louder, harsher pitch in the warehouse etc. 😁
