In today’s edition of Sounds From Afar, Felix Appiah takes aim at President John Mahama and the NDC over what he describes as broken promises to Ghana’s cocoa farmers. Felix argues that the NDC campaigned on promises of significantly improving the producer price of cocoa, including expectations around a GH¢6,000 price, but says farmers are now disappointed by what they have received. He accuses the government of using promises to cocoa-growing communities to secure votes without delivering the relief farmers expected. He also revisits President Mahama’s campaign promise concerning the provision of polytanks and irrigation support for cocoa farms, arguing that farmers have yet to see meaningful implementation of that commitment. According to Felix, cocoa farmers should judge the government by what has actually been delivered rather than campaign rhetoric.
