@elparsiano: Persia/Fars was only one region within the Iranian world. What’s modern is one state, historically called Persia in the West, adopting the name Iran and making “Iran” synonymous with its modern borders. Historically, Iran was never limited to those borders.
Afghanistan itself is 106 years old and it was east Persia or east Iran part of great Iran

They changed it in 1935 only, calling Persia Iran. Tajiks in Afghanistan were not happy about the renaming by using Iran as the new name, however, the Pashtuns tried to distance Tajiks from Iranians by changing the constitution and naming Farsi Dari. So many Tajiks don’t know and till today call their language Dari. Russians did that too by calling Farsi tajiki.

But we also need to mention that aleady since the Sasanian Empire, The Sasanians called their realm/Empire "Erān or Erāshahr. Obviously, they didnt simply mean Iran, but all the Land (Iraq, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan,...) within their empire. Furthermore, lets not forget that the main base of their empire was within Borders of The country we call Iran today as most Sasanian fire temples, Reliefs, castles, Bridgestone are today in Iran.

Ferdowsi was an eastern Persian, he was a “Tajik” from Khorasan, an “eastern Persian” not west. He was from Tus which was part of Khorasan.

What nonsense! When they say Iran, as it relates to the old times, they mean Persia, that includes Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, etc.

Modern states are new concepts brother, no doubt on that, but existing of the name of Iran or Iranshahr for this entire region goes back to Ardesher Babakan, more than 18 centuries old.

not correct. the frameworks of the modern national identity of Iran was founded by the Achaemenids and it was finalized and officially established by the Sassanians, the Sassanians called their empire "Eranshahr" and founded the national identity of Iran. that's why every dynasty after them looks up to them and consider themselves their heirs. for example Saffarids, Buyids, Ziyarids, Samanids, Seljuks and Safavids and many other dynasties. learn ur history
