This is the dramatic moment a heroic firefighter rescued a pet cat from a blaze engulfing a home. Firefighter Joseph Torregosa was battling the inferno with his colleagues when they were alerted to the tabby cat perched on a wall ledge, meowing for help, in Cebu, the Philippines. Point-of-view footage shows Joseph, donned in full firefighting gear, grabbing a wooden bench to reach the trapped feline on May 15. He initially attempted to pull apart the fence wire by hand, but failed, causing him to ask his team for a bolt cutter. The rescuer then cut through the wire, creating an opening large enough for the animal to fit through. Joseph grabbed the cat by the scruff as it initially struggled. The firefighter then comforted the soaking wet feline, gently patting it while carrying it away to safety. Joseph said the cat ran away after he carried it out of the area to move it away from the heat. He added: 'As soon as I placed it down, it suddenly bolted away to safety. I did not chase after it because I still needed to return and help with the fire response.' The rescuer recalled that one of the volunteers alerted the team that a cat was trapped inside the burning compound while they were battling the fire. He said: 'When I saw the cat, I quickly grabbed something to stand on. Before I could rescue it, I had to deal with thick smoke, the intense heat from the flames, and dangling electrical wires, some of which were still live.
