“Father, Go Back to Your Seat!” Drama Erupts at Burial as Friends Clash With Catholic Priest A burial ceremony for a man identified as Eng. Peter Mutuku took an unexpected turn after two of his friends clashed with a Catholic priest over the use of the microphone. A video circulating online shows the two men holding the microphone and addressing mourners during the funeral service when the priest approaches them and appears to ask them to stop speaking. Instead of handing over the microphone, the men confront the priest and tell him to “go back to your seat” and wait for them to finish addressing the mourners. The priest then warns that he will leave the service if the two men do not obey his instructions. The warning, however, appears to have little effect. The men remain firm and continue with their address as the priest eventually walks away. In another dramatic moment captured in the video, the priest is seen removing his liturgical vestments as the confrontation unfolds. The incident has since sparked debate online, with Kenyans taking different sides over who was in the wrong. Some argue that the priest, as the person presiding over the Catholic funeral service, had a responsibility to maintain order and control the proceedings. Others feel that a burial is also a time for friends and family to mourn, celebrate the life of the deceased and share their memories, and that mourners should be given space to express themselves.
