@hang.loose.divers: 🐋🦈 Happy International Whale Shark Day! 💙🌊 Yesterday we celebrated one of the ocean’s most incredible gentle giants — the whale shark, the largest fish in the world! 🌏🐋 Despite their size, whale sharks are completely harmless to humans. They’re filter feeders, using their enormous mouths to collect plankton, tiny fish and other small organisms from the water. And yes… those little mouths can be up to 1.5 metres wide! 😮 Every whale shark has its own unique pattern of spots, almost like a fingerprint, which means researchers can use these patterns to identify and monitor individual sharks around the world. 🌟 Here in Thailand, getting the chance to dive alongside one is always a reminder of just how incredible our underwater world is. There’s something pretty special about looking up and seeing a 10-metre-plus whale shark cruising peacefully through the blue. 💙 But these incredible animals need our protection. Whale sharks are classified as Endangered, facing threats including accidental capture in fishing gear, boat strikes and the impacts of human activity on the ocean.
