As a mostly food creator, I never expected to receive hate for my excitement and love for food… but I was quickly proven wrong. One of the first things I had to come to terms with when I started posting on this app was that people will judge you for anything. The way you eat. The way you look. How much you enjoy something. How loudly you laugh. How fully you allow yourself to exist. And if I’m being honest… there are still days it gets to me. I’m only human after all. There are days I question myself. I try to shrink a little. Tone it down. I wonder if I’m “too much.” If my excitement is overwhelming. If I should be quieter… smaller… less visible. But in those moments, I remind myself of something that feels like truth in my bones: The very things people criticize you for… are often the most honest parts of who you are. Because my love for food was never just about food. It’s about watching my dad in the kitchen when I was little, turning simple ingredients into something that felt like love. It’s about my grandma cooking without measurements, just instinct, memory, and heart. It’s about travelling somewhere new and not speaking the language, but still feeling understood over a shared meal. It’s about the nights I miss home so deeply that I cook my mom’s biryani, not because I can ever make it like her, but because for a moment… it feels like I’m close to her again. Food, for me, has always been memory. It has always been identity. It has always been connection. And I refuse to shrink something that sacred just because it makes someone else uncomfortable. If anything, this journey has taught me the opposite. To take up space more fully. To feel things more deeply. To laugh louder, love harder, and show up exactly as I am, no edits, no apologies. Because the right people… they’ve never asked me to be less. They don’t just accept me, they feel me. They see themselves in me. They grow with me. So if you’ve ever felt like you need to dim your light to be more digestible, more acceptable, more “palatable”… Don’t. Be too much. Be emotional. Be passionate. Be loud about the things that make you feel alive. Because there is nothing more powerful than someone who chooses, again and again, not to shrink for the comfort of others. 💛
