@newstalkhq: A media reporter followed rescue teams to #Gyirong Port, the core disaster zone following the mudslide along the #China-#Nepal border. Starting in the early morning of August 28, dozens of search and rescue personnel trekked for over 10 hours to reach the area. To prevent hypothermia, they could not sleep for long periods and have been working intensively for three consecutive days. So far, they have completed two full sweeps of a 40,000-square-meter area and will next carry out deeper searches.

Wow, she is a very strong lady to be able to make that long trek to the port. I read that the roads are gone and you have to climb a very high mountain to get there.

How is this possible? I've seen BBC saying that China is not showing what's happened in Tibet and Nepal. I'm so sorry for the victims.

There's literally nothing left 😔 The scene is crushing. But what has happened in Tibet? Chinese media should post about that too.

:Genuine question: In July 2025, a glacial lake outburst flood destroyed the Friendship Bridge at Gyirong Port, caused a peak discharge of 1,100–1,400 m³/s, and left 17 people missing. A subsequent scientific study identified 55 glacial lakes upstream and explicitly recommended assessing the risk of another flood before reconstruction. Despite this, the port was rebuilt in the exact same location. Now, in August 2026, another flood has destroyed it again, with at least 16 dead and over 500 missing. Were the 2025 safety recommendations ever considered before the rebuild? And if not, why?"

Unbelievably sad what happened. Hats off to the rescuers working in these conditions. Such large structures, vehicles and roads all gone by the force of nature. I can’t believe anyone within 1KM of that area survived. Horrific. 😭
