I used to read my kids the same books every night. They entertained them but they were not teaching the lessons that actually matter. So I started turning my own kids into the characters. The challenges in the story are the exact ones they are facing right now. Not wanting to train, being tired at school, choosing how to show up. I gave the emotions names they can actually understand. Shield, parachute, bounce, jetpack. They do not just hear be resilient. They see themselves as bounce and they know exactly what to do next. Bedtime stories should rehearse the person they are becoming.
