@68colliam: Part 202: Assault v Battery Assault offence is any action done to create fear of imminent injury in another person. It doesn't need physical contact except in sexual assault. On the other hand, battery involves physical contact that causes injury to another person, eg hitting someone with a fist in the face. Just pointing a gun amounts to assault while pulling a trigger is first degree murder. You need to understand this difference for protection and self defense. Be law smart.
Do our police officers have this knowledgeable? They seem to use assault when one is physically beaten causing actual bodily harm

In Botswana there is no distinct criminal offense called "battery" we absorbed it into common assault which is the intentional application of any force without consent, or a threat/gesture causing fear of immediate force
