I remember in the second novel, When Taekjoo is in cuba the ONLY reason he doesn't let those kids die is because he would feel sad if Zhenya died. He only feels empathy when it's to do with Zhenya. He loves his mum but he's always lying to her. By the end of the second novel he's telling Zhenya he's not allowed out of his sight and they have to do everything together
