Decathlon Quencha MH500 - it's the best waterproof jacket I've ever had. £80 and has all the features in this video. Mine outperforms any £300+ jacket.

We love our ponchos. They're absolute waterproof, you get fresh air by shortly lifting it, and it has an extra space for our backpack. So they are also kept dry.

I literally JUST booked a trip to Oregon and need a rain jacket you posted this with perfect timing cannot wait to see your recommendations. I’ll be traveling so is there one that’s lightweight but still good for hiking in rainy weather?

Bought an Arc’teryx Beta AR for my last hike and it was absolutely brilliant in stopping all the rain from getting through to me.

Can you please recommend a super lightweight but durable rain repellant coat please? For someone who gets very hot wearing coats

Yeah, you’re absolutely right. I learned this lesson the hard way! I had a North Face jacket and at the time I didn’t really understand all the labels, so I didn’t realise it wasn’t actually waterproof. I found that out on a mountain in the High Tatras! After that, I switched to a Gore-Tex Mammut jacket. A bit pricey, but I haven’t had any problems since. So yes, it’s definitely important to read the description properly and understand what all the labels actually mean.

Trying to stay ‘dry’ is absolute nonsense. Thousands of years and humans still can’t make rooves that don’t leak. What we should be talking about are garments that keep one warm when wet-through. A large plastic cape over everything is the only thing that passes my strongest tests in Gogledd Cymru. I’ve been listening to fabric and waterproofing lies since 1972.

Are you able to name any specific makes and styles? It’s a minefield and I’ve wanted £100s in the past on “waterproof” jackets for hiking 😅
