Thank God I’m alive and well. All glory belongs to Him. 🙏🏾 So yesterday, I was casually sitting at the very back of the bottom deck of the bus, just a couple of stops away from mine, when suddenly I heard this MASSIVE bang/pop. The bus started slowing down and the driver shouted “Engine fail” and almost immediately I looked down and saw smoke rushing through my feet. I JUMPED UP and shouted “SMOKE!” and started running towards the front of the bus. Me and another passenger at the back were the first two people off because I don’t think everyone else had registered what was happening yet. But once I shouted and we started running, everyone obviously realised very quickly that something was wrong. And the smoke picked up SO quickly. Mind you, this was a DOUBLE DECKER. There were still people coming downstairs and trying to get off while the smoke was getting thicker, and then the back of the bus actually caught FIRE. Meanwhile, the bus driver was STILL on the bus. 😭 I’m assuming he was grabbing his bag, money and whatever else he needed because, respectfully, that bus was not making another journey. 😭 Once I knew I was safely away from the bus, obviously my observant self was not going anywhere. I stayed at a safe distance, watched and recorded the whole thing unfold. About three fire engines arrived and it was genuinely so interesting watching the firefighters work. Everyone seemed to know exactly what they were responsible for and the whole operation was incredibly efficient. I basically got to watch the entire response from start to finish. Massive respect to Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service because seeing them work in real time gave me a completely different appreciation for what they do. But above everything else, I thank God for His protection. Something can go from completely normal to dangerous in a matter of seconds. I was literally just sitting on a bus going about my day, a couple of stops away from getting off. Thank God everyone got off safely. Thank God nobody was hurt. Thank God for the firefighters who responded. And thank God for His protection over every single person on that bus. All glory to God. ❤️🙏🏾
