I lost both my parents just months apart, but the loss of my mum is the deepest hurt, a chasm I will carry with me until the day I die.

I am totally aligned . I don’t think I will ever get over the loss of my mum even till the day I die . The impact she made on my life is so profound giving me so much love and warmth and that’s a gap that will never be filled

I'm a teacher but I'd never write that. I still have both of my parents but I've imagined my life without them. And those times were so painful.

What was wrong with that teacher. we all carry grief in our own way. it's unfortunate you had to go through that at a tender age. And that teacher did not help things out at all. 😭

It’s really upsetting to know that your teacher wrote something like that back then. Maybe she had never experienced grief or the loss of someone she deeply loved before. I think anyone who has experienced losing someone close to them, especially a parent, would understand that there really is no such thing as “moving on.” I’ve learnt that there is no timeline for grief. It comes and goes in waves, sometimes when you least expect it. And no matter how much time has passed, at the end of the day, we loved that person deeply. Grief is simply love that has nowhere to go. It’s been 3 years since I lost my dad. Every now and then, I still find myself talking about him, telling stories about him, or thinking about what he would have said or done. Some days are harder than others, and I’ve realised that I don’t think that will ever truly change. But like you said, I think we simply learn how to carry it a little better as we continue living our lives. We don’t move on from the people we love. We move forward, carrying their memory, their love and the ache of missing them with us. Sorry it’s a little long huhu. but I feel you. Much love, Ben! ❤️‍🩹

I lost my mom at 15 to breast cancer (she was only 36 then) and I'm already 49 now. No, we don't move on from the grief; we just find ways to live a little each day yet still carrying our mothers in our hearts.

Oh dear why did your teacher write that 🥲 Maybe we can move forward.. but to just “move on”..? Grief can’t be ‘processed away’.. Tks for sharing this ❤️

“Well, if you leave a crater alone long enough, flowers start to grow in it. And animals move in. Sometimes, a crater becomes a lake. It’s still a crater, but it’s beautiful and you can’t really see it at first glance. The hole inside you is the same. Beautiful things are going to grow there. The memories you have of them and the things you did with them. New memories you make in their honor and just the happy things that are going to happen in your life. And one day, you’ll look at the hole, and it’ll still be there, but it’ll be okay.” A little story quote for those who have lost someone 🫶

Grief is never ending. Healing is never linear. It hits harder on special dates, when memories get vivid and when some nights feel darker. Grief is proof that there’s love 🩵🥹

I lost my mom at 43. It’s been 16 years, and though life has moved on, my heart still misses her every single day. 🤍 Some losses never leave us.

Grief never goes away, you just learn to adjust and try to live without them on this side of life. The grief comes and goes and anything can trigger it- a scent, a song or even just seeing other people with their parents. There is a pain that cannot be explained until you actually go through . Keep talking about your mum, her memories is one one way of honoring her. I lost mine at 22. Both parents. But im so much more grateful for life because it.

grief is like glitter, after years you may have thought you cleaned it all up but some day, a month later, a year later, you will find you missed a speck and it hits you again all at once

I just had this conversation about grief with my friend because she just lost his dad 4 months ago. She asked me how i handled my grievances because i already lost both my parents. I said i cant say it get lighter or easier with time because is not...🥺 After years passed by i still smiled and cried at the same time when something wonderful happens but its reminded me if my parents. So ya i never got over it after years

I have followed you since your The Sam Willow’s days and you have repeated this story multiple times. The fact that the teacher gave more trauma than your death of your mom, is really unforgivable. There are good teachers out there but some teachers be really out of touch and lack of empathy. I’m glad that you became the face of SG and delivered this message right into her face! 😁
