Absolutely. I stopped drinking 3 years ago and am divorced for about that long. One day I realized that if I didn’t also love drinking too much we never would have gotten together

Matriarchy Minded :
I’m been thinking a lot about this lately. Why do we believe that suffering is the greatest teacher and joy and happiness are just the reward of learning. Can’t great learning come from inside safe spaces with healthy relationships ? Doesn’t human life itself have enough natural consequences without the need for violence, abuse, neglect or projected harm on the innocent? Have we just become accustomed to and normalized the crimes of patriarchal hierarchy as if “it builds character?”Instead of realizing and accepting, as sacred truth, that humans would be thriving with a safe environment and the simple fact there is more than enough for all on this planet.

thank you sharing. i ended up married and pregnant at 19 to my ex husband who was a smackhead, i was just getting into heroin when i met him. he introduced me to IV use and shot me up for the first time. i struggle with taking responsibility for my own choices, while also holding the knowledge that he was 5 years my senior and brought me deeper into that world. believing that what was had in a situation like that is “love” is what can hold us back. when it was never love, it was attachment and toxicity and control. and the lesson is only ever that we accepted what we thought we deserved.

Patriarchy requires us to maintain an external locus of control and an internal locus of responsibility.

Well you evolved beautifully and most of us have our own stories and wouldn’t be who we are today if we hadn’t endured difficult times. In the end my trauma was a gift.

OMG!!!! I have been thinking this too. That the profound joy etc must be the impact too. Not just the depth of pain and hurt that brings in the gifts but all of it is a contribution as a whole to the balance of the scale we call temperance.
