@museoisabel: I picked up The Age of Innocence expecting a love triangle and instead got completely sucked into Edith Wharton’s world of elite New York society. I’m fascinated by how much of the social world she’s describing feels specific to the late 1800s — and how much of it still feels recognizable now. The rules may have changed, but the pressure around reputation, relationships, money, and who belongs where feels… familiar. I also really love the way Wharton writes her characters. They feel so much more complicated than the simple roles they’re supposed to play within their society. So yes, I’m recommending this one. Especially if you like historical fiction, old New York, complicated relationships, or books that make you think about the world you’re living in now. Part 1 because I clearly have more thoughts coming. #TheAgeOfInnocence #EdithWharton #BookTok #BookRecommendations #NYCBooks
