You will run into problems with ping and tracert if ICMP is blocked. Assuming you’re running Windows servers and have not enabled ICMP, Windows Firewall blocks it by default. Your internal servers may not respond to ping or tracert. Not sure about Linux.

I wish tracert actually showed every hop. Like a laptop should tell me the first hop is the WAP, then 2nd hop is the switch, then the router or another switch, etc. but sadly it doesn’t work this way

If I had to pick 5 CLI tools to resolve a network outage, I would go with dig, mtr, netstat, ping, and ssh.

i would actually recommend installing bind-tools and using dig instead of nslookup. dig is way more powerful.
