I think people sometimes infantilize Geto by treating him as though he had no real agency in his own downfall. Yes, Toji was a significant part of his trauma, and Yuki’s conversation with him introduced ideas that eventually influenced his worldview. His experiences as a sorcerer, the deaths he witnessed, and the hypocrisy of the jujutsu system all contributed to his deterioration. But understanding the factors that shaped someone is not the same as absolving them of responsibility. Geto was AND still capable of making choices, and ultimately, he made them. He chose to embrace the ideology that non-sorcerers were the source of the problem. He chose to kill people who had done nothing to him. Most significantly, he chose to kill his own parents. Neither Toji nor Yuki made that decision for him. That distinction is important to me because Geto’s tragedy isn’t that he was some helpless child who was simply manipulated into becoming who he was. He was a YOUNG MAN who experienced profound trauma and ideological disillusionment, but he still had agency. His circumstances can explain why he reached that point without erasing the fact that he was responsible for what he ultimately chose to do. You can sympathize with Geto, understand his descent, and acknowledge that the system failed him while still holding him accountable for the consequences of his actions. In fact, I think his character becomes much more compelling when you recognize both sides of that he was shaped by his circumstances, but he was not solely defined by them.

its not entirely toji's fault. it's the goddamn jujutsu system failing everyone, using gojo as a weapon, sending literal kids to fights where they could die, and the overall hopelessness that curses would never end. ofc i'm not saying that geto didn't do anything wrong bcs ultimately he choose to do all of those crimes himself. ngl idek why yuki is being blamed, she just said the truth. geto would have defected sooner with the way his beliefs started to shake, his tiredness of it all. having to swallow humanity's worst can do that to people, not to mention it tastes like a shit and vomit rag.
