@oldforgecreations: This feels a lot closer to what I was aiming for! The petals are mostly coming out evenly and at a sensible length, and the fired result is looking pretty flowerish. There are so many variables such as the clay firmness and the segment order, that changing the design of the segments might not be the right solution.
