@jameswallis_: we think of coming out as a moment...a once and done but you never realise just how often life asks you to do it again. and again #mlm #comingout #Igbt

“You never stop coming out” needs to be emphasized more.

and unfortunately you have to decide if its safe to say the truth. and people really act like we’re the problem when we just trying to live our lives too 🤷‍♂️

today at my job my coworker said "thats gay" to very negative situation. I'm sick of being the brunt of the joke or having my sexuality used as a derogatory term.

It’s exhausting. My husband and I are in our 60s, been together 25+ years, and people still ask us if we’re brothers. It’s gotten to the point where if someone asks about my “wife,” I just respond “My husband hates it when I call him that….” 🤣

I'm a straight woman. I get asked these types questions all the time. I am always delighted to make up an answer 😂 strangers don't need my life story. lighten up -- small talk in Boots isn't some 'coming out' story.

for those of you just saying be yourself and just tell people it really is not that simple. you have to decide if the person who's going to react badly or even with physical violence you have to come out again and again and again and again because for some people it is beyond their comprehension that two men may be a couple so it is easier to say things like. is this your brother? it's not about lack of Pride. it's about safety And the point is we shouldn't have to lie about being ourselves

Many people in the comments are saying either ‘why care what people say’ or ‘don’t bother anwering and coming out’. I don’t think the poster of this video was looking for glib solutions - he’s simply making the point that it’s a conversation or decision that straight people don’t even have to consider

Very real. I started a job, and the first question was: how is your wife? Any kids? They tell you not to talk about it, but they’re asking the damn questions.

EVERY DAY at the playground with my two-year-old someone will ask what my “husband” does or about my son’s “dad.” Let me tell you making that decision about whether it’s safe, uncomfortable, or completely fine with little eyes and ears watching and listening really adds to it! I don’t want him to feel any shame in his family, so I try to be brave.

For me, pride is being able to say "Oh I'm actually gay" 10,000 times a day if I have to. Whether I should HAVE to or not doesn't bother me. I am blessed to have far bigger problems in my life to focus on.

I get so nervous to be honest and I’m 33 now. Been with my husband for 18 years (high school sweethearts). I’ve been guilty of just going along with the conversation because I wasn’t sure if they were a safe person.

I just say it as it is and let them have their awkward feeling. Last holiday in Switzerland the receptionist wanted to check in a second room, and when I told her we are together and only have one room you could see the shame on her face. We need to keep educating people.
