IMAGINE WORKING THROUGH THE NIGHT ON AN OIL RIG, SURROUNDED BY NOTHING BUT DARKNESS AND THE OPEN OCEAN! 🌊🌌 Here is what a night shift looks like when you work offshore, and the view at night is something you have to see to believe. It’s 6 PM. The sun is setting, and the night crew is taking over from the day shift. Before we start, we attend a handover meeting to find out what work has been completed, what still needs attention, and what hazards we need to watch for. Then I step outside, and look at this! The entire platform is glowing like a floating city in the middle of a black ocean. There are no streetlights, no buildings, and no traffic — just the rig, the waves, and darkness stretching in every direction. But don’t let the view fool you. The work doesn’t stop when the sun goes down. Depending on your role, you could be carrying out maintenance, handling supplies, monitoring equipment, or performing safety checks. Every task matters because offshore operations continue around the clock. Around midnight, it’s time for a hot meal. The catering crew prepares food for workers on the night shift while most people onboard are sleeping. And then comes my favorite part: those quiet moments before sunrise. I grab a coffee, look out over the ocean, and watch the stars above the rig. By 6 AM, the sun starts rising over the water. After 12 hours on shift, it’s finally time to head back to my cabin and get some sleep. But let’s be honest — night shifts can be exhausting, and being away from family isn’t easy. Meals and accommodation are often provided onboard, while transport arrangements depend on the employer and contract. So let me ask you: could you work 12 hours overnight in the middle of the ocean? Comment YES or NO below! Follow this page, comment “OFFSHORE,” and check the link in my bio for our step-by-step guide to starting your offshore career.
