So fyi…. The unit of blood has to stay bedside with patient how ever many hours/days policy states due to possible post infusion reaction that blood package, tubing, bag etc has to be sent off to be tested! 🙄

After giving blood it’s packaged up into a bio bag and kept in the patients room after so many hours before final disposal. This is done just incase you have a reaction to that unit it can be investigated. A lot of people experiences come from ignorance. Just bc something is done in a way one might not think is “right” doesn’t mean there isn’t a reason for it. That is what it looked like these nurses might have been doing with the blood here. As for wound changes certain wounds are not dressed daily…some are daily, some are as needed, and some are every 3 days depending on many factors. Nothing wrong with asking about your care but there may be a reason in why things are done a certain way. Ask to be educated on reasoning before just assuming.

You only need a red bin for grossly contaminated blood & drainage. By that I mean saturated. Blood products that are transfused are regular trash. Empty containers should be disposed of in regular trash immediately. Nurses typically do not use a patient’s sink to wash their hands. They use sinks outside of the rooms, but alcohol in & out of the room. HCA badges record hand washing. They can not enter or exit the room without using alcohol to clean their hands. What I see in this video is a need for education on protocols so that patients have a better understanding of the care they are receiving.

I can confirm that when I worked at HCA I saw this being done quite often. Glad I quit. It wasn’t in Gainesville it was further south.

It’s all over the Internet nurses are not even able to pass third nursing licensure test. It feels like they’re just letting anyone in to be a nurse.

HCA North is dirty! Just went last week and they left a bloody gauze pad on a table in the waiting room for aftercare in the ER. Their system to push people out of the bed to put them in that room to wait for meds etc is awful!

if your patient has a fever and chills after transfusions the blood bank needs that bag and send it to Microbiology department for a blood culture. They need to ruled out Bacterial contamination. However the bag shouldn’t be in the room at after transfusions. Normally the signs of transfusions reaction happen during or after 15 minutes of transfusions.
