@tylerallison92: How much does it cost to own a surf boat? I have had years I used it over 40 times, just haven’t used it much the past two years. Many have asked if it’s a good idea to buy a boat. Depreciation is something many boat owners don’t like to acknowledge but it is a very real thing to account for, as well as taxes. If you need to finance it… I’d argue it’s a pretty questionable purchase.
If it fucks floats or flys it’s cheaper to rent it

If you rent there’s usually a captain included, so you got some stranger in the boat with you all day

Bought a new 20 ft all welded Aluminum Stanley, galvanized trailer & 40 horse Yamaha 2 stroke 25 years ago. Don't need insurance, zero maintenance, stored indoors. The original cost was $11K for everything. Looks as good as the day I brought it home.

If you don’t use your boat enough when you own it, you sure asf won’t rent a boat 5 times a year either 😂😂😂😂 so call it 3k a year on rentals

The real question is what does not owning a boat cost you. I would eat bugs and sell my ass for loonies if that is what it took to own a boat.

Lost you at it depreciating 10-15% a year? The hit is big when taking it off the lot new but other than that boats have held there value pretty good over the years depending on how many hours your putting on.

Maintenance seems very high at 3000. Also, I have a mobile mechanic come out and change the oil once or twice a summer for 200 bucks and keep an eye on everything another 250 at the end of the year to winterize it not close to 3k

Wow, your interest rate must be extremely high. I rent out mine every couple weekends and it pays for itself. It’s all about knowing how to play the game.

I bought a $12,000 boat. Does boat things. Goes fast, ski, tube, wake, float, drink beers. Most importantly, creates the same great memories with my kids and friends, and I don’t give a crap if they wear there crocs or step on the seats. If it breaks, I’ll buy a new one for less than you pay in maintenance and insurance per year. I can surf with my buddies who make poor financial choices. lol.
